Note: John West, Sr. IS NOT PROVEN to be the father of William West, Sr. and his siblings. The DOB of William, Sr. fits well as his "fourth son", however. Two things seem to be against this. 1) the late DOB of his first child, John, Jr. (1632)

L&D-115: Newton County Nuggets, p. 176. THE WEST, by Opal STERLING Jackson.
...The West Ancestors have been traced to John born 1595 in England. He was a Colonel and Royal Governor of Virginia in 1635. His fourth, son, William and wife, Keziah are listed in Fairfax Co., Isle of Wight and King William Co. as a Land Owner. After the Revolutionary War he (William) is found in Spanish Territory, LA in 1788-1819 A.I.S. Census on the waters of St. Catherine Creek May 25, 1792 with son, Littleberry. They are listed in the number of actual settlers east of Mississippi River and west of Pearl River in 1798. Note: Other researchers have Thomas as the father of William West, Sr., but it appears that John is a better bet - Jim Allen.

L&D-210: From book in DeRidder Library (title & arthor unknown)
...Col. John West was a son of Capt. John West, Gov. of VA 1635-37, who was a brother of Thomas West, 12th Lord Delaware, Gov. of VA, 1610-18, who died enroute to VA in 1618. Capt. West was born 14 Dec 1590, and died at his residence at West Point, (named for him) about 1660. He was a member of the Virginia Company in 1609, Burgess from York 1629-30, Justice 1634 and member of the Council from 1631 until his death.

...Mrs. Wanda Harris found that COCKACOESKIE, queen of the Pamunky Indians, and her 20 year old son JOHN WEST acting as interpreter, were at the 20 Feb 1677 signing of the treaty concluding "BACON'S REBELLION" in VA. John was reputed to be the son of an English colonel, probably also named John West, for whom the locality "West Point" was named.
...Fifteen years later Pasquotank Precinct, Albemarle Dist., NC, in the inventory of George Fleming's estate, "John West, Indian" received a payment.
...Since Pasquotank was not far from Jamestown, many of the rebellion refugees poured in NC to escape the vengance of Gov. Berkeley of VA.
...Another clue is that George Flemming's wife was a descendant of Pocahontas, who was a cousin of Cockaeoeskie.
    EDITORS NOTE:
